Many tobacco companies came to Kavala in the nineteenth century. The museum explains this history with objects and images about tobacco cultivation, production, processing and products. It includes equipment used to grow tobacco, benches where people worked, machines used to process it commercially, presses, samples of leaves, photographs, maps, advertising posters and rare documents. It shows the social history of the region and the relationships between the labour force and the employers. The museum also holds an important archive and library about tobacco in Greece. It is temporarily in the ground floor of the building of the National Tobacco Association, built in 1962.
